Sunday C. Chanda v Muswema Sampa and Electoral Commission of Zambia

The petition challenged the Kanchibiya Constituency parliamentary election held on 13 August 2026, in which Sampa Muswema of NRPUP was declared the winner on 15 August 2026. The petitioner, Sunday Chanda, was the UPND candidate. The petitioner alleged widespread violence, intimidation, threats, corrupt practices, electoral misconduct and non-compliance with electoral procedures. Among the allegations were the denial of copies of GEN 20 results forms to polling agents, alleged distribution of money and other items to voters, threats against polling agents and supporters, and interference with the free exercise of the right to vote. The petitioner sought an order declaring the election null and void and an order for fresh elections. In September 2026, Sunday Chanda gave notice of his intention to withdraw the petition, stating that he no longer wished to proceed and that, upon further consideration, he considered withdrawal to be in the interests of justice and the general public. The notice indicated that the petition had not been served on the 1st Respondent at the time of the notice. The petition was withdrawn.
